Project Type:  Residential Size:  1,200 sqft Year:  Complete in 2021 This 1200 square foot Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) was thoughtfully designed with an L-shaped plan, where one leg contains the open living, dining, and kitchen area, and the other leg houses the private bedrooms and bath. The building is oriented away from the main house to create a quiet, separated outdoor spaces for each of the two structures. To achieve this configuration, the design team collaborated closely with local building officials to gain approval for a phased construction to shift the original garage into alignment with the main residence. This move allowed the yard to be extended and enabled the creation of a separate, clearly defined entry sequence for the ADU. Expansive windows face a small, enclosed entry yard—balancing privacy with a connection to the outdoors. The result is a compact yet comfortable dwelling that feels open, quiet, and distinctly separate.
