Project Type:  Commercial Size:  100,000 sqm Year:  2019 Credibility: Yang's Previous Experience as Architectural Designer at SOM Located at the heart of Shekou, Shenzhen—a historic hub now seamlessly linked to the greater city—the site offers unmatched connectivity through expressways and subways. The design capitalizes on the district’s holistic development by creating a 3D pedestrian system and multi-level retail connections across all four sides, from ground to B1 and Level 2. Facing the ocean and mountains, the site also offers strong integration with nature, positioning the tower as both a community hub and a new local icon. The headquarters of China Merchant is envisioned as a canopy-like podium supporting circulation, retail, and urban life, with a rooftop observatory connecting people to nature and stunning views. Sustainability is central to the design, incorporating eco-friendly materials and technologies, while a marine-inspired architectural language defines its form. The result is a place where nature, culture, traffic, and commerce converge. Getting into the building, people would feel like in a gigantic ship, on its voyage from the past to a high-speed changing era; looking form far, the tower works just like the Beacon of Shekou, lightening a new way forward of China Merchant — a true cultural identity.
